Christine A. Moore

Christine A. Moore, designer and owner of Christine A. Moore Millinery has been creating hats professionally for over twenty-five years. After studying costume design and fine arts in college she worked as a costume designer, and in many theatrical costume shops.  It was at the Walnut Street Theater in Philadelphia where she fell in love with the craft of millinery. In 1990 she moved to NYC to assist renowned milliner Rodney Gordon. Under Rodney's great supervision Christine created hats for many Opera, Ballet and Broadway productions including The Phantom of the Opera, Will Roger's Follies, Crazy for You, and many more.


In 1994 she established Christine A. Moore Millinery in NYC on 34th Street between the fashion and accessories districts.  Although Christine designs a wide range of hats, she is best known for her explosive racing styles for the Kentucky Derby, four of which have been in the Kentucky Derby Museum. In 2009 she partnered with Churchill Downs and Mattel to design the official Barbie Kentucky Derby hat, and in that same year her hats were used in the 2009 official Kentucky Derby poster.  She has designed Oaks and Derby hats for former First Lady of Kentucky Jane K. Beshear, Mary J. Blige, LeAnn Rimes, Dylan Dreyer and many others.  

 

Christine has been on the TODAY Show eight times live from Churchill Downs, where NBC has called her “the milliner to the Triple Crown”. In 2018 she was named "Featured Milliner of Kentucky Derby, the first time this prestigious title has ever been awarded by Churchill Downs in their 145 year history. She continues this title in 2019, 2020 and 2021. She is the Official Milliner for the Breeders’ Cup, Official Hat Designer for America's Best Racing, the Official Milliner of the Jim McKay Maryland Million Day, the Official Milliner of T.O.B.A and Official Milliner of the Iroquois Steeplechase. She is the Featured Milliner at Keeneland, the Preakness Stakes and the Florida Derby. She most recently appeared on the ABC game show To Tell the Truth, where she stumped the celebrity panel.  In 2019 she appeared in the United Stories series, Visit the USA; Kentucky Derby tourist film, (which can be viewed on the front page of our web site) and in 2018 the Netflix film 7 Days Out, a behind the scenes look at the Kentucky Derby. Christine has worked with Longines as a lifestyle ambassador helping to highlight fashion at major racing events throughout the country, as well as with other companies and hotels such as Under Armour, Global One, Bare Essentials, Navistar, Grey Goose, Black and Decker, Red Door Spa, CSX, the Garden City Hotel, L'Auberge Del Mar, Fairmont Grand Del Mar, Langham Pasadena and NYC to name a few. Christine’s hats have been featured in many magazines including InStyle with Katy Perry, Vanity Fair with Jennifer Lopez, Del Sol Magazine with Chantal Sutherland, Churchill Downs Magazine, Her Scene, Sophisticated Living, Harpers’ Bazaar, Accessories, Her Scene, Ranch & Coast, Sun Magazine, SENSE Magazine, Baltimore Sun and Tops to name a few.  In the fall of 2009, Christine was named the “official hat designer for the prestigious Naples Botanical Garden”. Christine’s hats have been showcased on television shows including Nashville, Horseplayers, The Carrie Diaries and Gossip Girl.

 

Christine also designs other Collections such as, Fall, Spring, Polo, Resort, Bridal, Street Wear and a Men’s Collection called The “Blake Collection”. Christine A. Features

Elegance, unique design and comfort are what Christine A. Moore Millinery is all about. Her hats are sized at 22 1/2“, which is the average headsize. Each hat has a drawstring in the grosgrain to adjust the size for individual fit and comfort. This added feature was invented and tested by Christine in 1994 to ensure that all her hats fit perfectly. All custom orders are made to the customers exact head size.

 

Each straw hat is hand-dyed and hand-blocked and created with the finest of trim materials. All felt hats are hand-blocked as well. Christine is known for her use of silk in many of her hand-made flowers. Each hat is also lined, this  finishing touch adds quality to the design, creating a comfortable hat to wear as well as protecting the hat from wear. 

 

It is very important to Christine that her designs are light in weight. Most of the hats are made with flexible edging. Strong enough to keep the shape, but light and flexible making the hats more durable and resilient, as well as having an all around softer (and thus wearable) feel. As far as being packable, the casual styles can certainly be packed in a bag. 

 

All her creations can be special ordered to match any ensemble and head size. Christine A. Moore Millinery is known for her finishing work and attention to detail. All flowers are hand-made and unique to her designs. Each hat is individually and proudly made with great care in NYC here in the USA.
